President's Pen - April 2024

Karen Crowley | Published on 4/4/2024

We often describe the League as a grassroots organization, guided by the wisdom of our members. The truth of this assertion will be on full display at our May annual meeting. The work we do, the leaders who will guide us, and the budget that supports it all will need to be approved at our upcoming May 22nd meeting. As League members, each of us will have a say on our direction for the next fiscal year – July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. Your informed vote is an important part of the process.

In order to prepare us for these decisions, each active member will be emailed a copy of the meeting booklet. In the booklet, you will find biographies of all our nominees, a detailed budget, and a description of our proposed 2024-25 Program of Work. Our By-Laws require that you receive this information 30 days before the annual meeting, so look for an email to reach your inbox by April 22nd.

Then, please make plans to join us at 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 22nd. We will gather in the Weyerhaeuser Room, 4th Floor of the Everett Station. In addition to casting your vote, you will help us celebrate this year’s Legends of the League award recipients.

If you have never visited the transit center, you are in for a delightful surprise. Everett Station serves as a transportation hub as well as a career development center. The station offers residents and visitors a unique look into the history of Everett through its informative and beautiful artwork.

As a special treat - and incentive to attend - League members are offered the opportunity for a guided tour of the station and its artwork prior to the annual meeting. The main feature at the Station are the Weyerhaeuser Murals, painted in the 1940s by Kenneth Callahan. The murals represent a unique and successful partnering of art and industry. We invite you to join us for the tour, then stay for the meeting. Light refreshments will be served, and there is a small cost of $15 to attend. (The tour is free.)

All the details as well as registration information can be found on our League website calendar. Remember to log in as a member:

Hope to see you. We need your input and vote!
