Light for Our Democracy

Recently LWVUS called on its membership to defend democracy all over the country by hosting and attending gatherings the evening of March 4, 2025. Our League actively promoted and participated in numerous events throughout our county, indeed shining a light on democracy. Hundreds of people gathered in Snohomish, Bothell, and Edmonds. Although traffic was disrupted (at least in Edmonds), the gatherings were peaceful and reflective. I, for one, was very proud to participate and that the League participated in this effort.
Here’s what the LWVUS said about the nationwide effort:
“Democracy is not just a system of government – it’s the power of the people. It begins with us, our voices, and our votes. When democracy is under threat, it’s up to us to defend it. On March, 2025, we, the people hosted nationwide gatherings in our communities to bring people together in reflection, action and solidarity during the President’s address to Congress.”
It’s our democracy and our job to keep it healthy and vibrant, if not for ourselves, then for the children of our nation and world.
