The Candidate Forum Team is gearing up for the 2025 election year and invites all interested members to join us. This year, voters will make decisions on over 185 races across the county - for mayors, city and county council members, school board members, fire and hospital commissioners, charter commission members, and more.
The team is planning a robust schedule of virtual forums for both the primary and general elections. Every member of the team takes on a role, and we have many roles to fill. We welcome new members. In particular, we are looking for additional members to work in these areas:
Question Team: This team gathers questions about long-standing and emerging issues. The questions will be recommended to our State Vote 411 team and will be considered for our local forums. We are looking for members who are aware of local issues and are able to pull together a broad range of information, then create unbiased, non-leading questions. (Guidelines have been created by LWVWA and LWVUS.)
Coordinators: These are our ‘wranglers’. They contact candidates and secure their participation in a forum. Our most successful Coordinators have great attention to detail, are comfortable using Google email and spreadsheets, and are persistent!
Moderators: These members are the face of each forum. They run the forum, ask the questions, and keep everything moving ahead. A good Moderator will have a clear, steady speaking voice, a basic understanding of current issues and be able to keep their composure under pressure!
Our forums are a respected and appreciated source of nonpartisan information for voters. If you have an interest, and the skills required, please consider joining us! We meet monthly through November, usually on a Tuesday afternoon from 2-3:30 pm. You can find all our meetings and zoom links on the
website calendar. Our next meeting is
April 22. I hope to see you there.
